FREE FOR ALL FRIDAYS - B

B...Beach!

The one thing I miss the most after coming to Canada is the
beach in the Philippines. Yea, I know Canada has some nice beach but they're not real- meaning (to me), they're lakes not the ocean.

So... when there's extra $ (and even when there's none...), I try to go somewhere with a nice, real, beach to relax and have FUN.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Varadero, Cuba

Cayo Blanco, Cuba

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

There are so many beautiful beach around the world and even if I only get to see half of them, I can die happy!

A... ASSIGNMENT!

I am no longer a student but I have an Assignment to do. It's not something I have to do but rather something I want to do. You see, I am participating in something called the "Free Fridays"- an idea by the most active blogger I know... Ms. Randomness.

I haven't blogged in a while and I really miss it. I think this is a good start to get my thoughts going again. Pardon my lack of creativity for my first topic but I assure you: It will get better... I will get better.

*What a lousy entry... I hope this counts :-S

DRIVE-THRU BLOOPERS

On our way home after dropping off the hubby, Kyla wanted a treat. There was a Wendy's drive-thru where we were so I decided to get her something there.

Drive-thru girl: "Welcome to Wendy's. Can I take your order?"

ME: "Just a small chocolate milkshake please."

Drive-thru girl: "What size of small chocolate milkshake would you like?"

ME: ? ? HUH ? ?

Drive-thru girl: (giggling) "Oh, sorry! It's $2.... drive to the next window please."

After paying, she looks at me and asks...

Is that for here or to go?

Oh my, my, my, my! Seems like somebody had a long day!

KIDS AND TECHNOLOGY

A couple of weeks ago, I was home alone with my two little girls- Kyla (6) and Kaelene (1). Kyla wanted to 'role-play' with me and her sister. Here's the scenario Kyla came up with:

Her and Kaelene are streetkids and I'm the lady who sees them outside my house and I decide to adopt them.

This is how it went:

Kyla and Kaelene were on the floor... I mean the street just outside my house. I saw them outside my window so I decided to see why they were all by themselves.

ME: Hi, little girls. What are you doing here all by yourselves?
KYLA: We're streetkids.
ME: Where's your mom and dad?
KYLA: They left us. We are so poor... we don't have a mommy and daddy, we don't have a home, we don't have food and... we don't even have INTERNET!!!

Who would've thought the INTERNET would be considered such a basic necessity along with food and shelter?

After hearing what Kyla said and most importantly the way she said it, I couldn't help but crack up. I explained to her that I was already a teenager when I had the internet. Her reaction: Oh, you guys were poor too?

BACK TO WORK

June 6, 2008: My last day at work! Exactly 2 weeks later, I gave birth to Kaelene.

June 8, 2009: My first day back after my maternity leave. It was bittersweet. I was kinda glad to go back to work cuz I have that 8 hours guaranteed time to myself, but at the same time I was sad because I hated leaving my babies!

Oh wellz. I'll just have to look at the brighter side- we have more moolah coming in!!! YAY!!!

CABO - PART III

Another great thing about our resort was the Kids Club. They had different activities for children aged 4-12 every day. Parents can drop off their kids as early as 10am and pick them up at 5pm. Kyla got to do some arts and crafts while she was there one day for about an hour. Then at 8pm every night, they have a kids disco on the main stage. The kids get to dance, play games and win prizes. Kyla participated in the kids disco every single night. On our last night, Kyla finally won the game! That made her vacation.

For the hubby and I, it was the food that made us happy.

Every night, that pot (in the picture above) has something different. Our first night it was paella. It was oh-so-yummy! We always looked forward to eating whatever was in that pot. But that wasn't the only thing they served. The resort had 5 restaurants all in all: the main buffet which served all kinds of food, a steakhouse which overlooked the ocean and land's end and a Mexican, Italian and Asian restaurants. The food in all restaurants were great!

More Cabo coming up...

CABO - PART II

We woke up at 7am the next day (9am Toronto time since they are 2 hours behind). We got dressed and headed out to get breakfast at the main buffet, La Baja California. But before that, we had to take a picture just outside our villa.

The main buffet was HUGE! Kyla was amazed at how much food there was. Her favourite was the made-to-order omelettes and the quesadillas, which she ate at every single meal. We ate so much and drank different fresh fruit juices! As we were getting up to leave, Kyla stopped us and asked, "Mommy, aren't we gonna pay?" Hey, at least she was honest! LOL. We explained to her that everything is already paid for so we didn't have to pay for any food and drinks during the entire stay at the resort. You should've seen how amazed she was. Next, we're off to the hotel briefing held at the main stage, La Monumental.

The briefing started at 10:15am and the Sunquest representative pretty much just told us about the resort, the town(s) and talked about the different tours/excursions we can go on. He also introduced us to the heads of the different departments in the resort. Afterwards, we started walking towards the beach!

I was not disappointed when I saw the beautiful view of the beach and Land's End (that mountain you see in the picture). There also was a Carnival cruise ship docked in the ocean that morning. Los Cabos, by the way, is a very popular cruise destination so there was a different cruise ship docked there pretty much every day. Now it's time to relax and have fun! Let's go to the pool! (The resort had 6 pools!)

We decided to stay at the pool right infront of our villa. The water was a little cool but Kyla didn't care. She jumped right in! Then the hubby went in with her but all he wanted to do was chill. Ha-ha-ha. Lame joke, I know!

Several minutes later, Kaelene wanted to join them. I didn't want her to go in at first because of the water being a little cold but this girl wasn't gonna take NO for an answer. Well, actually, all she had to do was give her dad that sad, puppy look and out daddy came to take her in.

Can you see how happy and excited she was? She didn't seem to care about the cold water, either. Then, it's my turn. I wasn't brave enough to jump in. I just wanted to get wet a little bit just to cool off and take pictures in the pool. So I just chilled (yes, I did it again) by the sunbeds in the pool.

It was nice and relaxing! But Kaelene did not wanna stay still in that sunbed. She wanted to swim with her big sister. Swim, swim, swim. Now we're hungry!

Good thing the Mexican restaurant, La Mision, is just a few steps away. It's buffet-style for lunch. We ate so much- but not as much as the hubby! Look at him ravish this burrito- which became his favourite dish for the rest of our stay!

More Cabo coming up!

OFF TO CABO

Since I'm now getting back into this whole blogging thing, I might as well share with all of you how our vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico went (as promised a looonnnngggg time ago). LOL.

We were scheduled to leave Toronto at 12:20pm on April 16th. Upon checking in at the airport, we found out that our flight was delayed 3 hours. 3 hours later it got delayed to another 3 hours. And 3 hours later it got delayed to another couple of hours- that's a whole other story. It was a loooonnnngggg day at the airport- especially for the kids. But somehow, Daddy always found a way to entertain them.

Anyone up for a non-stop movator ride?

Good thing Daddy loaded up Kyla's favourite movie on the iPod. She must've watched that movie at least 20 times during our trip.

And there's the hubby and Kaelene taking up all those seats to enjoy a nice, long nap. After almost 12 hours at the airport, we finally boarded our plane! And just after midnight, we landed at the Cabo San Jose, Mexico International Airport. After dealing with customs, we went straight to our resort about 30-40 minutes away. After checking in we went straight to our room- it was almost 2am!

This was the best room we've ever had in an all-inclusive resort so far. It had everything! But before going to bed, we had to get some food for our hungry tummies- thank God for 24/7 food and bar services!

Next up... Day 2...

MORE TV

The hubby and I follow a couple of TV shows together: Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girl. The hubby watches other shows like Lost and Smallville. I watch America's Next Top Model and Dancing with the Stars. But all these shows are done for the season. We have nothing else to watch. Until today... The hubby came home with the complete Season 1 DVD for True Blood.

I don't know what it's exactly about. All I know is that it involves humans and vampires- Twilight-ish, it seems. I refuse to read anything about it because everytime I read something about shows/movies/books, etc., I always end up reading stuff that ruins everything for me.

Also, I know is that it won several awards and was even nominated for Best Television Series at the 2008 Golden Globe Awards.

Okay... time to watch... I'll let you guys know how it goes!

WORKOUT AT THE PARK

It was a beautiful Friday afternoon! The hubby and I decided to take the girls out to the park. When we got there, there were these new "things" that they've put up around the park. We thought it was such a cool idea when we finally figured out what they were- workout machines!

Not only did the kids have fun, so did the adults! Isn't this a great idea? Besides, wouldn't it be more fun to workout outdoors where there's fresh air?

HALFWAY TO 50

I'M BACK... and... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Just wanted to share with you how special my day was today...

When I woke up this morning, the hubby and the girls greeted me a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Then the hubby and I got Kyla ready for school. When she left for school, the hubby told me to go back to bed and rest some more. I woke up around 11:30 am and when I came out, our place was all tidied up! The hubby then told me to get ready so we can grab some lunch- he arranged for a babysitter for Kae so we can have a nice, peaceful lunch together.

We couldn't decide where to go so we were just kinda driving around then the hubby said his brother had called and asked if we can drop by the store to cover for him while he goes to the washroom. I got so upset because I was really starving! But the hubby assured me it'll only take a few minutes. Fine! But I just wanna stay in the car! But nope. The hubby made me come down with him. Imagine how pissed off I was! So we started walking to the mall. When we got infront of the store, the hubby just kept on going. I looked in and his brother wasn't even there! Then he told me to close my eyes and just let him lead the way. But no way I listened to him! We kept on walking then as we were passing by my favourite store, Aldo, he pulled me in and said, "Pick whatever shoe(s) you want. Happy Birthday!" Mahn! I felt so bad for getting mad at him... Hahaha...

After having some dim sum, we went home and got ready for my mini birthday dinner with the family. I got to celebrate my 25th birthday with my family, parents, siblings, granparents and in-laws. THAT was the highlight of my day.

P.S. Is it just me or do birthdays not seem to be a big deal anymore when you're getting OLDer? I never had that 'yay-it's-my-birthday' feeling anymore. Hmmm...

ALL SET

I haven't blogged in the past week or so since I've been so busy (or too excited rather) preparing for our 1st family vacation since Kaelene was born. This is also going to be Kyla's first time in the Caribbean!

I started packing last week but since I keep on changing my mind about what stuff to bring, I've repacked our stuff pretty much every single night.

Our flight is in about 12 hours and I am both excited and scared since this is Kae's first time on the plane too. The thing I'm worried about is that our flight is about 5 1/2 hours and I don't know if Kae can stay still or quiet for that long. I don't want her to be one of those screaming babies on the plane while the other passengers are trying to relax. Oh well. We'll see how it goes.

I'm also worried that we might go over our baggage allowance :-S

I'll be gone for a week but I intend to write on my journal daily about how our day went. I will be sharing all that with you when I get back.

So bye bye Toronto! and Hola! Mexico!

PLEASE GAS UP

I was running low on gas so I decided to drop by the nearest Gas station. I parked the car, turned off the engine and got out. Then I saw this:

"Hubby, please get out of the car and gas up for me."

The hubby was wondering why since I normally don't mind gassing up on my own.

This is why:
I didn't know how to work the friggin' thing!!! (Yes, even after reading the instructions!)

It's not my fault I got spoiled by the new gas pumps where I just swipe my card and voila! I can gas up! How old is this thing anyway?! You can't even pay at the pump!

YAY!

I can finally sleep! Our vacation is booked and we're ready to go!

I'm so excited that I can't even think of anything to blog about except for this. HaHaHa! So we'll be leaving on April 16th and coming back a week later. It's shorter than what we had originally planned but I know we'll have tons and tons of fun! We'll be off to the 'Jewel of the Baja Peninsula,' Cabo San Lucas.

SOOO EXCITING!!!

CHANGE OF TRAVEL PLANS

I blogged about the fam and I going to Cali and Vegas before we even purchased our tickets. Bad idea- because now, there had been a change of plans. No more Disneyland and casinos for me! We're going somewhere waaaayyyy better.

Pesenting

OUR HOME FOR A WEEK!

Any guesses where this resort might be?

FEES HERE, FEES THERE, FEES FEES EVERYWHERE!

A few days ago, the hubby and I have decided to go on a mini two-week vacation with the kids before he starts work. So I've been given the duty of deal-finder for airfare. I went to every single airline's websites and other travel websites to find any good deals. A few hours later, I was very excited to find a pretty reasonable price for tickets: $129 going to our destination and $130 to come back. I realized that another $100+ will be added for taxes and whatever fees. Little did I know, they charge travelers so many different fees now.

Here is a list of the different charges they put on top of the base rate:
  • Surcharges - $15.00
  • Canada Airport Improvement Fee (really?!) - $20.00
  • USA Transportation Tax - $39.00
  • US Agriculture Fee - $6.20
  • Air Travelers Security Charge - $7.94
  • US Passenger Facility Charge - $5.58
  • Canada Goods and Services Tax (GST/HST) - $21.30
  • September 11 Security Fee - $6.20 (WTH?! Will this fee assure me that no terrorist will board our flight?!)
  • USA Immigration User Fee - $8.67
After adding everything up, I decided that it wasn't a good deal anymore. So I'm still on the hunt for cheap airfare :-( But either way, we're leaving end of April for some Fun in the Sun! And finally, I'll be able to step into the LAND where dreams come true and go Casino-ing in the Land of Casinos! Oh and the few things I'm really looking forward to: Jollibee, Chow King, Red Ribbon and Goldilocks!

PARKING ISSUES

This is the car that's always parked infront of us in the parking garage. Do you see the problem here?

For the past few months, we've been noticing that this car is always parked a little too forward to the point where the front of his car is taking up a bit too much of our parking space. I've been wanting to talk to management about this but never got around to doing it (yet).

If this car is always gonna be parked this way, the car's owner should start paying part of our maintenance fee (which includes the fee for our parking spaces) to pay for our space that he or she is taking.

It's only fair.

CELEBRATING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

Thank clever and crafty female inventors for these can't-live-without-them conveniences:

The windshield wiper, Mary Anderson (1903)
- Tired of cleaning her car windshield in bad weather, Anderson designed a hand-operated mechanical window-cleaning device.

The dishwasher, Josephine Cochrane (1886)
- Frustrated by hand washing dishes, Cochrane created a machine that held soiled tableware in place for washing by internal water jets.

Scotchgard, Patsy Sherman (1955)
- Removing stains might be more of a challenge were it not for scientist Sherman, who developed the emulsion that keeps spills from soiling treated fabrics.

The modern curling iron, Jessie T. Pope (1946)
- When curling irons were warmed in a fire or on a stovetop, the heat could not be adjusted. Pope created a device whose temperature could be controlled.

Liquid Paper, Bette Nesmith Graham (1956)
- As a secretary, Graham experienced her share of typos. In her kitchen, she whipped up a paint formula that could be brushed over ink mistakes.

HIGH HEELS

I think high heels are sexy.

But when the person wearing 'em are limping and/or can't walk in them... ugh! What an ugly sight!

So please... if you can't walk properly in them, stick with your flats!

DONUTS, ANYONE?

I am NOT a donut person. I never understood what the big deal was about donuts. When I was in school, my friends would always have a coffee and donut combo on their desks during class. At work, my co-workers would always do 'coffee and donut runs' to Timmy's. I get the coffee part but never the donut part. Until a couple of year ago...

We were away in the States for our annual Black Friday shopping for the weekend. We decided to stop by a Dunkin Donuts for some coffee and snacks then the hubby saw it... TOASTED COCONUT DONUT. He wanted it right there and then. He went on and on about how good it was from what he remembered... blah blah... Then he made me try it. I didn't want to at first since 1) I'm not a donut person (like I said before) and 2) I'm not a fan of coconut. But he shoved a piece in my mouth anyway.

My eyes lit up... YUM! It was love at first sight... or should I say... at first taste. I wanted more! So we bought whatever they had left and couldn't stop eating it in the car and in the hotel. When we finished everything, I sent the hubby off to the nearest DD but he came back empty-handed. Apparently, not all locations carry that particular flavour. Imagine how upset I was! The next day, we dropped by every single DD store we passed by to check if they had my Toasted Coconut donut. But we had no luck. What a tease! We came back to Toronto without having any more.

Then we went to Buffalo several months later to drop-off the in-laws at the airport. And guess where we decided to drop by? Yup, DD. Lo and behold that location had my donuts! I was sooo happy! Of course, we bought everything- again! And now, even my in-laws are in-love with it.

Last week, when my family went to Michigan, I asked my mom to pick some of my donuts on their way home. I prayed so hard that the location they'd go to would have it- and my prayers were answered. I had a box of Toasted Coconut donuts waiting for me when they got back. I was sooo happy... but guess what happened?

On my way home after picking up the stuff my mom got from Michigan for us, my mother-in-law asked to be picked up and driven home. So I did. When she opened the door, she saw my box of donuts on the seat. She looked inside and her eyes lit up. And there I was thinking, "Uh-oh!" Hahaha. Yup! She asked for some and what was I supposed to say? "No, you can't have any?!" Of course not! But I did feel like a selfish little brat thinking... "There goes a couple of my donuts." Tsk tsk. But it's all fine... really. If she hadn't taken those 2 donuts, I would've gained even more weight than I did already!

But one more thing... I know... Can you believe I'm writing this much about some stupid, fattening donut? The next day, I went downtown with the hubby. He wanted to pass by Timmy's before going to his meeting. So we did. And guess what they had? Yes, my donuts! And of course, we bought whatever was left. But same issue again: they're only sold at select locations. BOO! Oh and one last thing (I swear!)... The Timmy's version is much better than DD's.
